Development using MapObjects

The Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands provides custom mapping solutions for military land managers.  GIS applications are developed for the desktop to access geographic and related attribute data. There are several different data formats which can be incorporated.  Development is done using MapObjects by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI).  Applications are stand alone and work in any Windows 95 or Windows NT environment.  No other GIS software is required.

With MapObjects applications you can:

  • Provide users with a simple interface
  • Display multiple map layers
  • Pan and zoom through multiple layers
  • Turn a layer’s visibility on or off
  • Use ESRI shapefiles, image fies, Arc/Info coverages or Spatial Database Engine (SDE) layers
  • Perform spatial analysis and query
  • Spatially select features
  • Display a variety of image formats including BMP, TIFF, SUN, ERDAS, BIL, BIP, BSQ
  • Access external databases via ODBC
  • Provide pop-up text labels
  • Print maps at a desired scale
  • Display UTM and Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) coordinates
  • Provide real-time GPS position display
  • Perform address matching and geocoding
