Computer Cartography and Spatial Analysis

CEMML offers GIS hardware and software technical support, hardcopy map production, design of customized applications and software interfaces, field data collection using GPS, and spatial data development.

Cultural Resources

CEMML provides assistance to military land managers for technical support in cultural resources management planning and compliance.

Data Management and Analysis

CEMML provides comprehensive data management, analysis, and report preparation for the Army’s Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) and Range and Training Land Assessment (RTLA) programs.

Environmental Compliance and Cleanup Management Support

CEMML provides assistance to environmental managers in compliance areas such as air, water, waste, toxics, and storage tanks. Center personnel (scientists, technicians, and managers) can provide support for: interpretation and/or implementation of state, federal, and agency regulations; permitting, planning, and reporting; as wells as inspections and operations.

Environmental Planning and NEPA

CEMML develops environmental planning documents for installations to incorporate the protection of natural resources with military training objectives.

Floristics

CEMML conducts comprehensive planning level surveys to document all vascular plant species on an installation, and surveys for threatened and endangered species.

Graphics and Publications

Graphic design and production are available as part of any product or service provided by CEMML.

Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance

CEMML assists installation land managers in developing short- and long-range LRAM plans to take maximum advantage of limited funding resources and opportunities for leveraging.

Master's Degree Programs in Military Lands Management

These programs provide prospective and career professionals, interested in natural resources management of Department of Defense (DoD) training areas and installations, with an interdisciplinary, specialized program of graduate study to prepare them for positions of responsibility within DoD environmental programs.

On-Site Staffing

In addition to its employees at the University, the Center staffs hundreds of full-time professionals and temporary employees on-site at more than 50 military installations, major commands, and the Pentagon.

Research

Our diverse staff of scientists conducts research on the ecology, hydrology, natural and cultural resources, and management of military training and testing lands.

Resource Inventory and Monitoring

The Center works closely with land managers to develop monitoring programs that recognize the primacy of the military mission and the importance of natural resources.

Soil Erosion and Sediment Deposition Prediction

Soil erosion and sediment deposition can be significant environmental issues on military training lands. Accurate modeling and mapping of current erosion conditions and potential erosion risk can assist military land managers and trainers in optimizing training schedules, delineating training areas, and monitoring the impacts of training over time.

Wildland Fire

CEMML provides a wide variety of fire management products and services to assist military land managers and range operations personnel in protecting against the risk of wildland fire.

Workshops, Short Courses, and Training

Through workshops, short courses, and training programs, CEMML works with land managers and military trainers toward the successful application of ideas, techniques, and programs.
