CEMML provides assistance to military land managers for technical support in cultural resources management planning and compliance. The Center works closely with installation resource managers to ensure that cultural resources are managed in accordance with the requirements of all Federal and state historic preservation legislation, as well as Department of Defense and service-specific regulations governing cultural resource management (CRM). As a research and service unit within the Colorado State University College of Natural Resources, the Center’s support capabilities are based on collaborative efforts between in-house CEMML staff, the CSU Department of Anthropology, the CSU Architectural Preservation Institute, and the CSU Department of History’s Public History Program. CEMML also maintains partnerships with several private CRM consulting firms and academic consultants having regional expertise on DoD installations.

The Center is also engaged in cultural resources research projects in the areas of geoarchaeology and predictive archaeological modeling, and the development of cost-effective approaches to archaeological site assessment and field data recording.
