CEMML Floristics Herbarium
What is the CEMML Herbarium?
The CEMML herbarium is a collection of plant specimens that have
been collected by CEMML and other personnel at military bases throughout
North America, Hawaii, and at some locations in Europe. The entire
collection from North America is available for examination and a
subset of the collection is available for loan. The herbarium contains
voucher specimens from nearly every taxon collected at our client
bases. As of Februar 2007 the collection contained over 32,300 specimens,
representing over 8200 distinct taxa.
Nomenclature Policies of the
CEMML Herbarium
The CEMML herbarium collection has been updated to
follow nomenclature assigned by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's
Plant List of Accepted Nomenclature, Taxonomy, and Symbols (PLANTS)
where appropriate. We have chosen to use the PLANTS database as
it is currently the most comprehensive database available for the
continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. Additionally, PLANTS
is used extensively by CEMML's client and coordinating agencies.
The vascular plant nomenclature, most phytogeography, and other
accompanying data found in PLANTS for the plants known to occur
within North America were provided under a cooperative agreement
by John Kartesz and his staff at the Biota
of North America Program (BONAP). Portions of these data are
copyrighted (c 1994) by John Kartesz and his staff at North America
Program. The copyright notice must be preserved on all copies.
Any user who alters any part of the Cooperator derived data cannot
redistribute it as PLANTS data. All users of vascular PLANTS data
are to acknowledge the contributions made by the Natural Resources
Conservation Service (NRCS) and BONAP.
