CEMML Director Finalists Selected (11/19/09)

Three candidates have been selected as finalists for on campus interviews for the Director of Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) position. Each candidate will present a seminar titled: Vision for CEMML. Click here for more information.

 

Military Installation Map Toolkit (MIMT) v. 3.0 Released (8/26/09)

The Army Sustainable Range Program released version 3.0 of the Military Installation Map Toolkit, known as MIMT. MIMT is developed by CEMML, with funding provided by the Army, and is an extension to ArcGIS. MIMT is a set of tools for developing common military surround elements, including north arrows, slope guide, international system of units (SI) conversion graph, scale bar, projection information, and UTM grids and Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) labels. MIMT assists users in quickly and cost effectively creating standardized maps, such as the Military Installation Map.

The MIMT software is available from the Army's Sustainable Range Program website at https://srp.army.mil

 

2009 LRAM and RTLA Informal Awards Recipients (8/18/2009)

The Land Rehabilitation and Maintenance (LRAM) and Range and Training Land Assessment (RTLA) Informal Awards process has been established to recognize those individuals whose outstanding performance exceeds normal efforts. Recognition is given to those individuals for successful completion of a major effort, product or service that advances either the installation LRAM/RTLA effort or the LRAM/RTLA Component as a whole.

The following received Informal Awards at the 2009 SRP Workshop in Indianapolis, IN.

Reed Rider (CEMML) - LRAM
Yuma Proving Ground, AZ

"The Sustainable Range Program greatly appreciates the contributions you have made to the Yuma Proving Ground Training Exercise Management Office and to the LRAM Component overall.  The exceptional support you offer your installation is evident in your ability to effectively reduce maintenance and repair costs for existing training ranges making  training both safe and affordable for visiting units.  You consistently answer the call of duty with diligence, professionalism and innovation in support of the training mission.  Your insight and expertise have proven invaluable in the decision making process regarding the planning, modification and maintenance of all of TEMO’s training areas.  Your diligence and professionalism reflect credit on yourself and your command." 

Michael Gibson (CEMML) - LRAM
Fort Wainwright, AK

"The Sustainable Range Program greatly appreciates the contributions you have made to both the Fort Wainwright Integrated Training Area Management Program and to the LRAM Component.  Your perspective and extensive forestry background have provided valuable insight into the creation of multiple maneuver corridors within various Army training lands throughout Alaska.  Your expertise, project management experience and design skills were of value to the Range Community in the development of many non-ITAM Pacific Area Range Complex projects.   These efforts are above and beyond the daily LRAM responsibilities, and have been instrumental in assisting Range personnel with the development of new PARC projects and initiatives.  Being in tune with the larger range development picture has enabled you to develop LRAM projects that complement and enhance the development of the PARC vision.  By recognizing the future project needs of the Range community you have been able to balance project management and efficient resource allocation to ensure the Army receives the highest return for its LRAM investment".

Through your ability to identify the future project needs of the Range community you are able to effectively balance project management and efficient resource allocation to ensure the Army receives the highest return on its LRAM investment.  By exercising creativity and innovation, and developing close communications with Range staff you have been able to generate solutions and alternative ideas that help Range Planners streamline and effectively execute their range projects.  By effectively bringing together your ITAM, LRAM and RTLA expertise you fully support the realization of the Pacific Range Area Complex vision".

Brooks Lundeen (CEMML) - LRAM

Jeff Mason (CEMML) - RTLA

Nicole Sikula (CEMML) - RTLA

"The Sustainable Range Program greatly appreciates the contributions you have made to the White Sands Missile Range Integrated Training Area Management Program and to the RTLA Component overall.  Your performance consistently exceeds expectations, despite the everyday challenges of limited resources.  Your ability to remain focused on task, quickly assess a changing situation and produce outstanding results make you an asset to WSMR and the ITAM program.  Additionally, the innovation with which you approach your responsibilities results in products that are both of maximum utility and cost effectiveness.  In addition to exemplary execution of your RTLA responsibilities you have admirably risen to the challenges of the WSMR LRAM program.  The professionalism with which you approach these challenges are a credit to you and your command".

Susan Vos (CEMML) - RTLA
Fort McCoy, WI

"The Sustainable Range Program greatly appreciates the contributions you have made to the Fort McCoy Integrated Training Area Management Program and to the RTLA Component overall.  It is your exceptional skill and perseverance that created the program the Fort McCoy RTLA program is today.  Your efforts to understand the installation from the Range Control perspective, coupled with your expertise have resulted in assessments that are of maximum utility to Range and LRAM colleagues for the sustainment of the training mission.  Your good working relationships and active coordination with ITAM Coordinator, LRAM Coordinator, and other key installation staff greatly benefits the installation, the training mission and the Soldiers who train at Fort McCoy.  Additionally you are recognized as a strong team player, supporting the efforts of your colleagues, and mentoring the work of others.  By meeting the daily challenges offered by RTLA, you have come to be known as a tremendous asset to your installation as well as a true credit to the SRP community".

2009 SRP GIS Award Recipient (8/18/2009)

Chad Kuhn (CEMML)
Fort McCoy, WI

Chad Kuhn received a Certificate of Excellence and award for Outstanding SRP GIS Product Development for the Fort McCoy DPTMS 2008 Maps and Data CD.  He has been providing this CDROM to training Units for a number of years in support of one of the core SRP GIS Missions; providing geospatial product development to support Soldier training missions on U.S. Army training installations.  In his efforts, Chad has also met very recent (as of the SRP Workshop) DAMO-TRS guidance on developing more efficient methods to provide SRP GIS Soldier support products through his development of the DPTMS Maps and Data CD.

New Associate Director Announced (8/4/09)

CEMML would like to announce and welcome Dr. Liz Caldwell to CEMML as Associate Director. She is an Environmental Scientist and manager with a Ph.D. in ecology/toxicology. More than 20 years experience managing site assessment and remediation under CERCLA/RCRA. We are pleased to have her in this role and look forward to her addition to the leadership team at CEMML.
