(and vice versa)

As the 2002 Winter Olympics begin next week in Salt Lake City, Utah, CEMML employees will be participating in both body and spirit. One of CEMML's full-time employees on campus, Jeremy Douse, a GIS analyst and Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves, was called to active duty in early January to support homeland security at the Olympic Games. Jeremy will be on duty there for the duration of the Olympics. On Wednesday, January 30th, over fifty CEMML employees joined in the Fort Collins, Colorado Olympic Torch Relay celebration on the Colorado State University campus, as part of the national Torch Relay from Atlanta, GA to Salt Lake City. The Olympic flame will visit 46 states and cover 13,500 miles in route to Salt Lake City.

The Relay arrived in Fort Collins from Wyoming on the morning of January 30th, just behind seven inches of new fallen snow. It wound its way through Fort Collins onto the CSU campus. The official route brought the Flame and its entourage of seven vehicles, bicyclists, runners and promoters directly past the front door of CEMML's main building, at approximately 9:45 AM, to the cheers and flag waving of CEMML employees, families and friends. The Relay continued from campus down College Avenue to the Mall, where several Fort Collins ex-Olympians joined the Mayor in a City celebration. Earlier in the day, up north in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the spouse of CEMML's employee, Roger Sayre, an Environmental Planner, ran a leg of the Torch Relay. Tamara Sayre, a former all-conference runner at Colorado State University from 1980-85, was nominated by Roger to participate in the Relay. Despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Tamara continues to run and participate in running events in Fort Collins, symbolizing the true spirit of the Olympic Games.

Indeed, as the Olympic Games approach, the Olympic Spirit is alive and well at CEMML. We join our co-workers, colleagues, families and friends in saying:

GO USA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
