CEMML Remote Access

CEMML has an anonymous FTP site that is available for file upload and download. Click the appropriate link below to open the site in your browser.

Incoming data (for receipt by on site employees):

ftp://ftp.cemml.colostate.edu/pub/incoming/

Outgoing Data (external public download):

ftp://ftp.cemml.colostate.edu/pub/outgoing/

User ID and Password:

If prompted, enter anonymous for the user ID and your e-mail address for the password.

Data Expiration:

FTP site contents older than 7 days are automatically removed.

Difficulties:

If you are experiencing problems using FTP, you may be able to solve the problem yourself: There are two types of FTP: passive and active.

Your application needs to be configured to use passive mode. Some older FTP clients, don't support passive FTP, most notably the one used in a DOS command window! However, Firefox and Internet Explorer do and most of these come with passive FTP set to default. If you are having problems with Internet Explorer and FTP, click on 'Tools' then 'Options' and then the 'Advanced' tab. Look for the "Use Passive FTP" option and toggle this option.

The CEMML 'incoming' ftp directory does not allow folder structures deeper than three (3) directories deep. If your data requires such a complex structure then compress (zip) the data into a single file before transfer.

General FTP Information:

FTP(File Transfer Protocol) is a standard that allows users to transfer files from one computer to another over a network.

FTP can be used to upload and download files from specified parts of other servers. Anonymous FTP directories store items that are made freely available to the public. Anonymous simply means a password is not needed to get access to these areas.

To download a file using your browser simply click the link for the file. In some cases you may need to hold down the Shift key while clicking on the link.

Many browsers allow you to upload files by dragging items from the Windows Explorer window and dropping them on the browser window showing the FTP site.
